Holley/Holly Family
of Weston
The Holleys were a Mennonite family who arrived in what is present day Weston in 1807, from Pennsylvania. David brought the family here with his wife and 9 of their children. He petitioned for lot 23, concession 7 on the Humber, which today is the Weston Golf and Country Club.
David and his wife soon retreated to Etobicoke, and later back to PA, leaving their son, Joseph, to manage the land and their newly built grist mill. This would eventually become the Wadsworth Mill. Joseph would continue to build mills, and other Holley family members would buy and live on land in Weston and elsewhere in York throughout the century.
Weston did not have a significant Mennonite community, and most of the Holleys quickly converted to other denominations.
The Holleys are one of several families whose industrious developments created the town of Weston. The majority of the information on this page was provided by the Weston Historical Society.
